REACTOR PHYSICS EXPERIMENT IN A GRAPHITE-MODERATION SYSTEM FOR HTGR

The Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) started the Research and Development (R&D) to improve nuclear prediction techniques for High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactors (HTGRs). objectives are introduce a generalized bias factor method avoid full mock-up experiment first commercial HTGR reactor noise analysis Engineering Test Reactor (HTTR) observe sub-criticality. To achieve objectives, core of graphite-moderation system named B7/4”G2/8”p8EUNU+3/8”p38EU(1) was newly composed in B-rack Kyoto University Critical Assembly (KUCA). is fuel assembly, driver graphite reflector, polyethylene reflector. assembly enriched uranium plate, natural plate plates realize average enrichment HTTR it’s spectrum. However, necessary criticality with small-sized core. plays role reference method, measured develop scheme. In this study, overview experiments reported. configuration moderation rare case KUCA experiments, expected contribute not only an development but also other types such as molten salt development.
